Cheap flights to Chiang Mai land you in northern Thailand, one of the most culturally significant cities in the whole of south east Asia. It is home to a number of historical sites, as well as some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole country – such as the mountains that it is located in. It attracts upwards of 5 million visitors every year, mainly drawn to the area due to its listing as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and by the relaxed atmosphere that the city portrays.
Flights arriving in Chiang Mai are nearly always from other Thai cities, as there are no international flights from Australia that land here. The airport is of a good standard though and there are regular flights arriving here from Bangkok – mostly operated by the larger companies in the country, such as Thai Airways, AirAsia and Bangkok Airways. It is also possible to get flights to this location from neighboring countries, such as Laos, Taiwan and China.
When arriving at the airport, the city is just located a short taxi ride away. The road between the two is of a good quality, although as with most Thai roads it will be extremely congested and therefore slow moving. Many hotels will provide a free taxi service to and from the airport though, which will save the tourist a few Baht. It is best to check with the hotel regarding this before arriving at the airport.
